Mission Statement of the Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee: Reduce the vulnerability to natural hazards in order to protect the health, safety, welfare and the economy of the City of Snoqualmie.
The City of Snoqualmie is embarking on a planning process to prepare for and lessen the impacts of specified natural disasters. Responding to federal mandates in the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (Public Law 106-390), this project will update its current hazard mitigation plan for the City of Snoqualmie. The outcome of the project will be a FEMA-approved single-agency multi-hazard mitigation plan including a flood mitigation plan for the City. A fifteen member Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee (HMSC) composed of representative stakeholders has been formed to guide the development of the planning document. In addition, citizens will be asked to contribute by sharing local knowledge of the area’s vulnerability to natural hazards based on past occurrences.
