Water customers who have irrigation systems, fire sprinkler systems, or other potential cross-connections, are required to install preventers and have them tested annually.
A connection between your drinking water pipes and a potential source of contamination is called a cross-connection. Examples include irrigation systems, fire sprinkler systems, industrial water uses, and nearly every hose-end applicator used for fertilizers or pesticides.
The City of Snoqualmie has a proactive Cross-Connection Control program to protect the public water supply by the elimination or control of cross-connections. Snoqualmie Municipal Code 13.13 and Washington Administrative Code 246-290-490 authorize the program. The provisions of these codes apply to all premises that receive potable water provided by the City of Snoqualmie.
Enforcement of the Uniform Plumbing Code and the installation of backflow preventers accomplish protection where necessary. The City of Snoqualmie evaluates water users for degree of hazard to the water supply and monitors 600 existing backflow preventers in the system.
