The Snoqualmie City Council adopted an ordinance on June 14, 2010 establishing a Snoqualmie Transportation Benefit District (TBD).
On August 23, 2010, the Snoqualmie TBD Board of Directors established a new $20 vehicle license fee for motor vehicles licensed to residents who live within Snoqualmie city limits. The fee will go into effect in early 2011. (A TBD board is authorized to add a street maintenance fee to new and renewing vehicle licenses in any amount not to exceed $20 to meet the City’s responsibility for the improvement, maintenance, protection, and operation of public streets. Fees of more than $20 must be voter-approved.)
The Snoqualmie TBD funds will be used for Snoqualmie transportation projects only and not for those outside of city limits. The projects will focus on transportation infrastructure such as street reconstruction and improvements, new signal lights, and bridge repairs, among others. Projects such as these are necessary for safety and congestion issues, as well as being imperative for mitigation of future, more costly road repairs due to neglect and lack of planning.
