The City of Snoqualmie is building a community center to be operated by the Y of Greater Seattle (formerly the YMCA) using funds currently available. Current plans call for groundbreaking in April 2011 and completion estimated for early October 2011.
Since the conception of the Snoqualmie Ridge Master-Planned Community, there have been plans to construct a Snoqualmie Community Center. The building will be located in Snoqualmie Community Park, 35016 SE Ridge Street, next to Cascade View Elementary School in the open area next to the tennis courts. The property at this location was provided by the developers for this purpose. The current plan does not rely on any voted bond or voted operating levy because the Y of Greater Seattle will be responsible for operations and maintenance. See the operations agreement linked below.
On July 26, 2010, the Snoqualmie City Council voted to begin negotiations with Wallace Properties, Lance Mueller & Associates, and GLY Construction as the development team for the design, finance, construction and equipping of the Y Community Center. A conceptual site plan, floor plan, and schedule is contained in the team’s response to the City’s Request for Proposals (see below). Final design will be determined after a process that includes City of Snoqualmie eview and citizen input.
The next meeting on the community center is scheduled for September 28 from 6:30-8:00p.m. ay Snoqualmie City Hall, 38624 SE River Street as a follow-up to the August 24 meeting hosted by the development team.
(The handouts from the August meeting are attached.)
At the meeting, Mayor Matt Larson provided a brief history of planning of the community center. After that, the development team presented an overview of their proposal and gathered input from participants about design of the new facility. The YMCA of Greater Seattle then led a discussion on the audience's preferences for programming. At the September meeting, the development team will share any revised designs with the audience and other updates to plans for the facility.
