In November 2007, Snoqualmie Mayor Matt Larson joined colleagues from across America for the 2007 Mayors Climate Protection Summit held in Seattle by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
The Seattle summit was the largest-ever meeting of American mayors devoted solely to climate protection. At the summit, more than 100 mayors from across the country representing millions of Americans discussed the impact of climate change on their communities and the steps cities are taking to reduce greenhouse gas pollution.
The summit was an opportunity to understand how local governments are leading the way on climate protection in the United States and creating solutions in homes, at work, and on the road. The goals of the summit support the efforts that Snoqualmie is making toward sustainability for a healthy community and environment.
To date, more than 1,000 mayors representing 83 million citizens, over 30% of the U.S. population, are committed to tackling environmental problems and the issue of climate change. Our combined efforts can make a significant impact.
